Saint Mary's Pro-Cathedral Parish is a community rooted in an almost millenial tradition of sharing the Good News of the Gospel in the heart of the city. Confident in our tradition, realised on the present site since 1825, we commit ourselves to exploring new ways of dialoguing with our contemporary culture in the task of forwarding our mission of evangelization.
Acknowledging the primacy of the liturgy as a means of evangelization we commit ourselves to maintaining the highest standards in liturgical celebration and especially in the provision of a standard of sacred music and sacred space befitting a cathedral church. Both resident parishioners, those who attach themselves to this community by choice, visitors and the marginalised will continue to be welcomed hospitably to this mother church of the Archdiocese. Clergy, representatives of parishes and of church and state institutions will be accorded a welcome consonant with the vocation of a cathedral church. Outreach to those disaffected either socially or spiritually from the parish will retain a high rating in our mission priorities.
